[Finished] Operation Deadly Love
  • Jace
  • I couldn’t understand how things could have gone so horribly wrong in such a short time. One moment things had gone well – we had found out the two hitmen and got the name, the next, Misun was in a hospital room, fighting for her life.
  • I stayed by the door, not sure if I even wanted to enter. How could I? I should have known better than this. I should have never let her go on her own, no matter how much she begged. No matter how much she looked like she needed it and no matter how much I believed she could take care of herself. I had messed up and now I did not dare to face them or her.
  • Now here we were, standing in the hospital, waiting for any kind of information while they operated on her – while they operated on my little sister. I could still not shake off the image of when we found her there. She was completely soaked in her own blood and she lay there looking completely lifeless. I had frozen up, thinking she was dead. My heart had never felt so heavy as in that moment. When Jungkook turned her around, I felt as if I was punched in the stomach by God himself. I felt relief wash over me when she talked even if she was in pain.
  • I could barely move as I had watched the paramedics put on an oxygen mask on her and then put her on a gurney. Jungkook had followed quickly behind her as they loaded her in the ambulance while I remained frozen in place. I stood there until Yoongi managed to pull me along into his car.
  • By now, everyone was here. Jin was next to his wife as both of them tried to keep everyone hydrated. Yoongi was sitting on the ground, staring into the wall while his wife was next to him, rubbing his arms. Hoseok and his wife were also next to each other, his wife breaking into sobs and then trying to stop herself.
  • Namjoon was either sitting down or pacing around, his wife sitting down and biting her nails. At first, he had kept asking her questions, but she never gave clear answers. The other doctors had not let her go in, deeming it too personal which might make more room for mistakes due to emotional involvement.
  • Jimin and Taehyung were sitting on the ground, holding hands, almost as if they were praying together. I had caught a brief part of their conversation as Taehyung whispered about how he cannot lose Misun as well, not like this.
  • The Chief and the Captain had also made their way to here. They had talked to the members and me, trying to figure out what happened. As expected, the chief was not too fond of my decisions. He argued that I should have done better…and he was right.
  • As for Jungkook – he was in the corner, sitting down on the ground, his knees up to his chest. He had not stopped crying since the minute we walked into the house and brought her here, hours ago.
  • I sighed as I ran my hand through my hair just as I heard footsteps. I turned slightly as I saw two of my co-workers approaching.
  • ‘Tell me you have some good news,’ I said as they both nodded.
  • ‘In a way. The man who was shot at the house, that’s Mr Cha,’ Chanyeol said as I nodded.
  • ‘We talked to the doctors. He was only shot once and it wasn’t fatal. He’ll survive so we can take him to prison Jace,’ Xiumin said.
  • ‘Does it matter if Misun doesn’t survive?’ I asked and they both sighed, just as Jin approached with Yoongi.
  • ‘What’s going on?’ Yoongi asked. He sounded tired – almost as if he was drained. I couldn’t blame him. Everyone has been going full-on for the last couple of days, trying to figure out what happened and racing against time in case there was a biological weapon. Then this happened and it felt like a meteor had hit us.
  • ‘We were giving Jace some updates. Mr Cha is said to survive so he can go to prison,’ Xiumin said.
  • ‘That’s not all,’ Chanyeol argued as he cleared his throat. ‘It seems Mr Cha was paranoid. He had cameras in his living room which might either sink Misun or save her,’ he said.
  • ‘What do you mean?’ Jin said, sounding a little alarmed. Chanyeol cleared his throat as he looked at me, almost as if for permission to speak but I just nodded.
  • ‘The footage shows her pointing her gun at him, forcing him to sit down and then giving him the first punch or two,’ Xiumin began.
  • ‘Then it showed another man coming from behind. He’s the one who opened fire so although technically speaking she broke protocol and might be punished for it, it might be less since she was not the first to open fire,’ Chanyeol explained.
  • ‘She only fired in self-defence,’ Xiumin added.
  • ‘*ing hell. This man ordered Natalie to be tortured for information and then killed and one of his men shot Misun and you’re telling me she might still face charges?’ Yoongi yelled a little angrily.
  • ‘She’s not the only one,’ a familiar voice said, making me turn slightly. I gulped as I saw my commanding officer approaching. He had a hard look on his face but I knew he was *ed as hell. I could see it in the cold glare he gave me or the way his jaw seemed to twitch. I gulped once more, not really wanting to deal with this right now.
  • ‘Sir,’ I began but he simply raised his hands, forcing me to stop. He walked right in front of me and before I knew it, his hand came across my face. The force of the hit forced my face sideways while gasps echoed in the waiting room.
  • ‘What the hell are you doing?’ Yoongi yelled coming to my side but I shook my head, not wanting him to get involved for his own sake. Besides, I deserved this. My commanding officer just ignored him as he looked at me.
  • ‘You *ed up big time Jace, letting Detective Yang Misun go in alone, knowing she wanted revenge,’ he said and I nodded.
  • ‘And you think that’s a right reason to hit him?’ Misun’s Chief asked but my commanding officer just shrugged.
  • ‘Maybe you should have house trained her to be obedient instead,’ he said, making my eyes go wide, but before I could say anything, I saw her teammates surround him.
  • ‘I’d be very, very careful how you speak about our team leader,’ Jimin said through gritted teeth.
  • ‘Misun is an incredible detective and one mistake doesn’t mean you get to look down upon her, or this team for that matter,’ Hoseok added.
  • He looked at them one eyebrow raised, mouth tilted to one side in an almost amused smirk. He shook his head and turned back to me.
  • ‘Whatever, Jace, you’re being suspended for the time being until further notice,’ he said.
  • ‘What? He did nothing wrong!’ Seokjin said but he just rolled his eyes and turned to leave, not even bothering to ask about Misun.
  • ‘What about the shooter?’ I asked, turning to my two friends. The shooter had managed to escape and I did not want him to get away with this.
  • ‘Don’t worry, we got that covered Jace. Trust us,’ Chanyeol said while I gave a simple nod. I watched as the two of them left again and I looked down to the ground.
  • ‘Are…are you okay?’ Taehyung asked and I shook my head. I felt my tears just finally come out as I looked at him.
  • ‘No, I’m not. The person I love like a little sister is fighting for her life because I let her go on her own. I should have never, never listened to her, no matter how much she managed to convince me,’ I said, shaking my head.
  • ‘She wouldn’t want you blaming yourself,’ Jungkook said, talking for the first time since we got here.
  • I looked at his red, swollen eyes, but found myself unable to speak. If I did, I would end up crying. Jungkook stood up and approached me. He gave me a small smile that seemed to show some hope.
  • ‘He’s definitely right about that,’ Captain Sejin said, offering me a sad smile of his own.
  • ‘Misun is a grown woman who makes her own choices. Nobody was going to stop her from going inside of there alone. Probably, knowing her, she knew what she was going inside to do and wanted to protect you from seeing that,’ he said.
  • I looked down, not having any words to reply to that. Suddenly, the door opened and a doctor came out. He looked at us and then Boram rushed to him.
  • ‘Oppa,’ Boram called out, a reminder that she worked with these people. ‘Is she going to be okay?’ she asked, her voice cracking.
  • ‘It wasn’t easy and we nearly lost her a couple of times,’ the doctor began. I heard Jungkook gasp loudly and I stole a glance at him. He was holding his breath and his hand was on his chest, almost as if he was holding his heart. ‘Her body suffered a lot of damage including her right lung and stomach. She lost a lot of blood, but luckily she’s a fighter. She’s going to be okay, but she needs time to heal,’ the doctor said.
  • ‘Oh thank God,’ Jungkook said as he fell to his knees, face against the ground. He sobbed loudly while Jimin went and hugged him tightly.
  • ‘It’s okay JK, it’s okay, she’s going to be fine,’ Jimin soothed. I found myself looking at the ceiling when suddenly, I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned and found Yoongi.
  • ‘It’s okay to cry, Jace. It’s okay to let it out too,’ Yoongi said. I turned towards him and while my lips trembled, he smiled and pulled me into a hug.
